On October 18, 1997 Finley Stadium Davenport Field became a reality, as the hometown Chattanooga Mocs defeated Tennessee State in the annual River City Classic by a score of 28-7 in front of an overflow crowd of 22,646. Still the largest crowd to ever attend an event at Finley, this was the culmination of decades of work by the community. To sum it up best, Gordon L. Davenport, whom the field is named, had engraved on his bust at the stadium's entrance "I had a dream... and it came true."

And it is still coming true... Finley Stadium has played host to many events on the biggest stage. Finley was host site from 1997 to 2009 to the FCS (formally 1-AA) National Championship, has hosted the United States Soccer National team three times (1998, 2015, and 2017). And most recently, Finley began hosting the TSSAA State Football Championships in 2021 and hometown country music star Kane Brown held a sold-out concert with over 17,000 spectators in Spring 2022. 

Locally, Finley Stadium Davenport Field is home to Chattanooga Mocs Football and the Chattanooga Football Club, together activating the campus over 25 weekends a year to crowds ranging from 2,000 to 15,000.

The stadium, nestled right in the heart of the Southside and Chattanooga's best nightlife is more vibrant at age 26 than it was when it opened. Features of the stadium include:

• Brand new Daktronics video board, fully customizable to event needs.
• High-speed internet capabilities throughout the Press Box, Skyboxes, Stadium Club, and back-of-house spaces.
